March 12, 2006 - Port Isabel, TX

The wind blows frequently and strongly in south Texas and it is both damp and arid here on the coast. Chuck had to hold on firmly to the steering wheel to take us from north Padre Island (near Corpus Christi) to this town across the Laguna Madre from South Padre Island.

With gusts forcast to hit 50 mph the next day, we took care of chores and relaxed for a day, only visiting the famous marsh "boardwalk" at the South Padre Island Convention Center in search of rails and bitterns. We have now had great looks at three there, the clapper, sora, and Virginia. We even saw a clapper clapping.

I just found out that I have been accepted into my school's civilizations abroad program in Pune, India.

I'll be there from late September until early December learning about the region's culture and history, traveling around the country, and learning some Hindi. I'm very very excited and happy!

it'll be a lot of fun and i'll be sure to take lots of photos.

NYT's article on 'Nova

Just to keep things "fair and balanced" here is the puff piece on 'Nova that appeared The Paper of Record today.

""'Nova wins; Ho Hum""

The Big East

All you Syracuse alumni--you know who you are--should be aware of the recent exciting developments at the Big East tournament in NYC. I beleive that Georgetown is the next victim, tonite. "Nova is in the other bracket, so I don't think 'Cuse and 'nova will meet until the final, but I could be wrong. Anyway, here is the article from the NYT. I will try to post the articcle about Nova in a few minutes.

Adding songs

I applaud Jim for taking the time to add songs and audio files to the site. But, I do not believe that these audio files should be made available to the public (especially for download). Accordingly, I have removed them from listing on the front page and redesignated them for family only (as opposed to the public). If you are logged in, you can still find them under "audio files." As a practical matter, this means that anyone surfiing the web will not see the songs and will not be able to download them.
