New article about climate change

This year, there has definitely been a lot more attention given to the issue of climate change: its realities, predictions, mitigation and potential solutions. There's a lot to say on the subject and I thought it would be interesting to start a discussion on the different facets of it. I would be happy to just post some interesting articles on the subject or we could have an ongoing discussion.

Gifts

Just so you don't worry, the donations show up at least four days after they are given (on my runner's website). The first ones are up now.

Thanks!

Boston Marathon

Dear Family,

Some of you already know that for the past few months, I have been training for the Boston Marathon. Surprised? I was too when I realized I wanted to sign up. I’ve never been a serious athlete but found myself looking for a challenge last fall. I wanted to push myself physically and mentally. And what better way to do that then to join the President’s Marathon Challenge team at Tufts?

My journey to the 26.2 mile course has not been an easy one. Throughout my training I’ve struggled with cold weather, a bad knee and general frustrations. But I know that the hard work will be worth it, because while I’m running towards the finish line on April 16, 2007 (only 2 weeks away!), I’ll be thinking of all the rewards to come from this experience. Not only will I be proud of myself, but I’ll be thankful for the support my friends and family have given me. Even if you can’t come to Boston to watch the race, you can show your support by sponsoring me.

Oops!

sorry for the lack of images...will have to talk to my Dad about that and put them up when i figure it out.

The results are in!

Lieberman lost....
"His loss to Ned Lamont — just six years after his party made him its vice presidential candidate — made him only the fourth incumbent senator to lose a primary since 1980. But he pledged to petition his way onto the November ballot as an independent candidate."

Notable for why he lost, and the fact that so few incumbents lose primaries.

Been a while...Lieberman vs. Lamont

I'm currently finishing up the Tufts Summer Session...one of my classes is Candidates, Campaigns and Elections and a race that we've been talking about throughout the class is Lieberman's primary race.

I've never really been interested in ant elections but the Presidential, but this class and my age, I suppose, have opened me up to a greater sphere of politics.

I find the Connecticut Democratic Primary race between Lieberman and Lamont particularly entertaining. One of the thing's my Professor likes to exclaim is, "It is not what is real that is important but what is perceived to be real." He points out to us (and it seems backed) that Lieberman really should have the advantage as an incumbent. Traditionally Senate incumbents get re-elected. Why Lieberman is being targeted by the Dem party, potentially at the risk of sacrificing a D seat for Senate (by losing the name recognition and incumbent advantage after the primary) is because not only does he believe that the U.S. should stay in Iraq...but that the U.S. was correct to go Iraq and that there were absolutely no errors made in our foreign policy during this war. Conn Dems, however, believe that regardless of whether or not the US should stay in Iraq, that the war is not going "well" and that perhaps some mistakes should be acknowledged. Lieberman stands up for his conscience here and refuses to back down. A debate results: should Conn voters respect Lieberman for standing apart from the Dem pack, for upholding his long-held conviction as it stands, for the Iraq conflict...or should CT Dems punish him for his failure to understand what they believe happened with Iraq?

Clearwater Festival

Hello everybody,

The internship I’ve been doing for the past two and a half months is coming to an end and the event I have been preparing for is approaching. I have been coordinating the Green Living Expo which is a part of the Great Hudson River Revival. The Revival is a weekend-long festival which takes place in Croton (a bit north of us). There will be tons of music, entertainment, crafts, dancing, environmental action groups, sails on the river, kayak raffle, and of course the Green Living Expo (a showcase for green businesses).

I thought a few people might be interested in coming. If you are, please let me know, because I have a few day comp passes. (children 12 and under free).

You Are Mighty!

If you need a moment of true inspiration, and you have a computer with speakers...insert your name (where mine is) into this link and then paste it into the web browser. It's not cheesy. It's brilliant.

I'm baack...

Thanks for the welcome home! I was soo tired these past two days but I slept well last night so I think I should be over the jet lag by now. I'm excited to reenter the world of family blogging. Even though I was able to keep up a little while I was gone, I still felt out of the loop. I am definitely a fan of this website! hehehe.

I will probably be uploading my pictures tomorrow and will post some of the best ones.

I've been figuring out a job for the next few months and then in July I'll be back up in Medford for summer session. There will definitely be time in there for a visit with everyone!

Visit to the Vatican...

So this morning Emily and I went to the Vatican Museum. It was great to see it, even more impressive the second time. The Sisteen Chapel is really as amazing as its reputation. We haven't had a chance to climb the Dome at St. Peter's yet. I did it last time I came and know it's amazing, I'm just not 100 % sure Ill have a chance to get to it before I leave. This afternoon we relaxed at a cafe around a Piazza and tonight we're making our way to a long dinner and gelato. We've been walking around the city a lot. Everything is very accessible and my friend's apartment is right outside St. Peter's Basilica.
