Some Considerations about Sen. Kennedy's funeral

To some people there was some controversy concerning the recent funeral of Sen. Kennedy.  I thought I would post a link to this very thoughtful article published in the Fall River Diocese newspaper--Cape Cod is in the Fall River Diocese, btw.  It helped clarify many issues about "Catholic teaching", which many of us (myself included) think we know, but upon reflection discover we don't really know, and then wonder where the heck we would look to find out.

Fat and old --should they be against universal health care?

here is the link to the full article,         http://meganmccardle.theatlantic.com

you have to scroll down to the post entitled "A Long Long Post about my reasons for opposing National Health Care" .  A short bio of Ms. McCardle follows the excerpt here.

Some Quick Thoughts on Michael Jackson   [Jonah Goldberg]

Electro-magnetic pulse doomsday scenario

Hey, doomsdayers!  Here's a link to an article from a Canadian magazine--Maclean's-- which talks about a fictional account about the destruction of all computers through electro-magnetic pulse explosion or something--and how it used to be a concern 'cause it would wipe out all our bank accounts.  But now, it might be a blessing because it would wipe out all our debt!  It's by a conservative humorist, but its not bitter or repulsive, like some of his articles.

I thought about it again after reading Chuck's May 15, 2009 post.

Poem from "Alice in Wonderland"--"You Are Old, Father William"

When I was young we had a recording of actors doing excerpts from "Alice in Wonderland'. I can still hear this poem, recited by Alice, in my head. Once I became a lawyer, I always liked the sixth parapraph. I found this on-line--its amusing. From Chapter 5: Alice thought she might as well wait, as she had nothing else to do, and perhaps after all it might tell her something worth hearing. For some minutes it puffed away without speaking, but at last it unfolded its arms, took the hookah out of its mouth again, and said, 'So you think you're changed, do you?'

YouTube debates--Peggy Noonan

From Peggy Noonan's column in the WSJ today: I will never forget that breathtaking moment when, in the CNN/YouTube debate earlier this fall, the woman from Ohio held up a picture and said, "Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Obama, Mr. Edwards, this is a human fetus. Given a few more months, it will be a baby you could hold in your arms. You all say you're 'for the children.' I would ask you to look America in the eye and tell us how you can support laws to end this life. Thank you."

stem cell breakthroughs and pro-science pro-lifers

From "First Things" blog: Embryonic Stem Cells and Those Pro-Science Pro-Lifers By Joseph Bottum Tuesday, November 20, 2007, 7:22 AM If the news of major breakthroughs in cell research should turn out to be correct, we are about to witness something like victory in the fight over embryonic stem cells.
