Flags of Our Fathers

Saw this Thursday night. It's very good. Dad told Margaret it was realistic. See it quick. It won't be in the theaters much longer. I think it's important to see it to witness Dad's experience on Iwo Jima.

Adirondacks Are Hot. That’s Good. Or Not.

From 10/27/06 NY Times by Lisa W. Foderaro

TUPPER LAKE, N.Y. — Those who love the Adirondacks most are worried they are being loved too much.

Personal watercraft, all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles shatter the stillness, from one season to the next. Nearly twice as many building permits were issued last year as in 1998, while home prices in some areas have doubled in less than three years. Two major development proposals that would resurrect defunct ski areas, one here and another in North Creek, could create a total of more than 1,000 units of housing and several hotels in what Peter Bauer, a leading environmentalist, described as “an unprecedented building boom.”

Our visit with Anne and Chuck

in Cherokee, western NC. Anne is a doctor at the Cherokee Native American Reservation and at the nursing home. It is for tribal members only at no cost. Chuck maintains the property of 44 acres. The horses use most of the land. There is a shed and natural pond for the horses. There are three beautiful horses, three loving, eager dogs and two cats. Chuck voluntarily mows a large portion of the grounds and has a very productive garden as you would expect of him. Anne and Chuck made delicious dinners every evening with fresh produce from the garden. The house is built like a lodge with large rooms and a porch which surrounds the whole house overlooking the garden, horses, valley and distant mountains. The foliage was very colorful while we were there.

2003 Amalfi Vacation; Recollections of the Rosary

It was on our first day in Italy, a Sunday. Dad and Mom, Anne and Chuck, Robert and Mary Davidson, Mary Helen and Mark, and Robert and I had just spent our first night at our beautiful villa on the rocky Mediterranean coast of Amalfi. We drove into the picturesque village of Amalfi, for mass at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, the patron saint, and for our first shopping excursion. From the top of the grand stairs that leads up to the cathedral from the village square we took in the breathtaking views of the village, the cliffs, and the sea.

I believe in guardian angels

When Joe was a a baby he never cried. One day I had him propped up in the corner of his playpen. Norbert and Frank had left to take the bus to Taylor Park, a beach on the Grasse River.
