More news and perhaps some photo help?

I thought I'd write again today, because the rest of the week will be busy for me.

I mentioned my Bio midterm is friday - well im not too worried about it b/c it is by far my most interesting and fun class. It has a real fancy name: Molecular Genetic Analysis of Bacterial Pathogenesis, but it just means we're learning how bacteria cause disease in plants and animals (usually humans). It's a cozy class (just 10 students total) and though there are 3 professors depending on the day's lecture they all really know their stuff since they do research in the field and they're very funny. I find the topic interesting and Microbiology is currently my "specialization" within my major of biology.

I also mentioned Study Abroad and I thought you all would like to know that I have a chance of going to Pune, India in September and be back for December, or Cape Town, South Africa in January-March. Both places sound like lots of fun and look beautiful, but it's very competitive even though they're only open to U of C kids. Hopefully I'll get in one of the programs!

But it's not all homework, studying, and applying out here. Don't worry there's fun going on even if they say U of C is where "fun comes to die" - last night I went ice skating with friends and people from my dorm at the school's outdoor ice rink. You may never have thought of playing frisbee on ice, as I never had, but trust me - it's a lot fun

Lastly, I'm trying to figure out a way to post a gallery of pictures on here or even just one or two in a blog. Maybe someone (most probably Uncle Mark - haha) could give me a little help. As for the blogs I've looked for this 'Options' at the top but I do not see it. Perhaps b/c I'm on a mac? I know once i figure it out I'll realize how simple it is. And I've looked at ' Gallery' and I don't know how I go about making a gallery there (I've got a login, but can't connect it with this site). I'm sure eventually I'll be able to put some stuff up! until then, lots of love

biology

Sounds like your bio class is really neat, with only 10 students, I think of U Chicago as being a large university. Bacteriology is an interesting field especially with the development of antibacterial resistance. Of course this is just from a clinical perspective. All the new antibiotics, of course, are really expensive, and the bacteria all develope resistance anyway. Good luck with your program and courses! Aunt Anne

Yeah, Photos...

I can't get a photo up either, nor do I see the options menu. Perhaps it's an admin-only feature... And no, I'm not on a Mac ;-).

Photos

Anne and Chuck's New Home The process of uploading photos is simple. If you are signed in, you should be able to click on "content" in the left side bar. That will give you the choice of adding an "image." Follow the directions on the page to upload. At the top of the page under "options," you always have the choice of whether to promote the entry, photo, etc. the front page. The default setting always does this. If you do not choose this option, then your uploaded image will only appear in an image gallery (if you chose to put it there). This "option" works the same way for blog entries and other content. Click on title (above) or "read more" (below) for additional details. You will have the choice to put the image in an image gallery in the main program if you want (not this is different than gallery program I have been using for most of the family pictures which can still be accessed via the the link in the header under "Davidson Woods Family Web Site). Once that is done, you need to put a piece of code into the text of your blog entry. The code I used for the landscape style photo that appears above is as follows: "<img src="http://davidsn.com/drupal/files/images/DSCN0739_0.JPG" style="float: left;" hspace="15" width="250" height="175" alt="Our New Home" title="Our New Home" >" You need to cut and past that code into your blog text (without the quotes), change the name of the image file to match what you uploaded, adjust the width and height to the right dimensions to make the photo look right (for portrait style, try width="175" height="250"), and rename the "alt" and "title" for the photo. Click on "Full HTML" under input format.
