weekend

Patty and I drove to Fulton and visited my Dad and my sister Megan on Saturday, and they seem to be doing well. Patty did some yard work up there. And of course, we were very sadddened and shocked to read in Saturday's paper about the apparently non-accidental death of Marlene Hill, Patty's first instructor in waitressing at Luigi's. We are going to the wake tonight.

I'm sorry Patty,

I remember Marlene. It's a shame when someone's life ends in such a way. She was a remarkable woman.

She was good to me

I had fond memories telling 2 stories yesterday: one the story of her getting me hired at Luigi's and the other true story of her taking five dishes off my arms and with her leg sliding me into a booth so I didn't get hurt or drop one speck of tomato sauce when I fainted on a hot summer's eve. Some customers didn't even notice she was so cool heading from the other end of the dining room.

Unexpected

Sorry to hear that about your waitressing mentor. It sounds like you have lots of memories from Luigi's and that Marlene took you under her wing. If I remember this was one of your first jobs. How long did you work at Luigi's? I have a feeling it was quite a number of years. That must be where you learned multi-tasking.

My first remunerative job

Before that was the inevitable babysitting and the great for storytelling career at the Flamingo motel on Lake George. I worked at Luigi's for three summers after each college year and then senior year MH and I went out west to celebrate our graduation from college and beginning careers: MH RN in NYC and me as a teacher.
