Today we practiced unhooking and Anne got her first chance to drive the Birdmobile. Chuck is giving her an 'A' so far. It is a challenge to hook up and unhook utilities, because there are so many steps. We're working on a check list.
Yesterday we found another life bird for Anne. It was Bachman's sparrow and was a challenge because it was not singing. We were just travelling in the dirt roads through Apalachicola National Forest, stopping periodically to check for birds, when Chuck spotted it and we identified it. It was right where the books say it should be: in pine woods with thick understory.
Tomorrow we will leave this lovely forested campground and head to Texas. It will take about 3 driving days, and will probably stay in parking lots.

Good luck traveling to Texas

Sounds like you are having a good time with the Birdmobile. What's on the agenda when you reach the Lone Star state?

Texas

Today we will arrive at Aransas and camp in a state park. In the morning will take a boat trip out to barrier islands where we hope to see whooping cranes. They are an endanged species and this is where they winter. Shortly they'll leave to go to northern Canada. It will be a life bird for us both.
After that we'll camp on the beach at Padre Island National Park for 5 days. There we'll be observing shore birds.
We thought about you and Mike as we drove around Houston. Do you still own the apartment building there?

League City

We still have it (thanks to a swerve by Rita). Feel free to visit if you are in the Galveston area.
