February 16, 2006 "It must be Cedar Key"

This will be short, because the only access here is in the library. Cedar Key is a delightful old time fishing village, that is now starting to be developed. Many of the properties are >$500,000 now and I'm afraid the character of the town will change. With the help of friendly neighbors at the Sunset Isle RV Resort we got parked and hooked up to all utilities for the first time:water, electric sewer and cable(a luxury for Anne who loves the Olympics). We've been to all the state and national wildlife preserves in the area and have been birding daily. We 'dipped' (did not find) the Red Cockated Woodpecker which we have searched for in all the right places for 5+years. Maybe will find him in Apalachicola next week. A Clapper Rail gave us a clear and great look this morning as we birded the edge of the reeds. Next week as mentioned above will head to the Florida panhandle and stay at a state park in the Apalachiacola National Forest.

Bird pictures

If you saw the pictures we posted to the web site, could you let me know if we got the names of the birds right and asociated the right names with the right photos.

bird photos

Yes, they are all correctly named and are all fantastic shots.

birding daily

This means not too much on the road. Sounds heavenly. It's difficult not to watch the Olympics and do other things. You learn about the sports as well as the area and culture. Good luck finding the Red Cockated Woodpecker! Enjoy!
