A beautiful weekend
Submitted by Norb on Tue, 05/30/2006 - 9:04am.Hope all of you had a fine weekend. We've enjoyed everyone's recent blogs. We have three growing bluebird babies. They're starting to get the blue feathers.
Unfortunately, I guess, we have a beautiful family of 6 or 7 foxes living under our corn crib. We're fearful for our two outside cats so will try to hassle the foxes.
Had a beautiful boat trip across Lake George last night. Our friends the Newlins bought a camp near Diamond Point.
Some of you may want to attend the Lake George Opera's yearly boat trip on Father's day.

Bluebirds
Submitted by Norb on Mon, 05/22/2006 - 2:43pm.It looks as if the bluebirds (American Eastern) have nested in one of our boxes and have 3 or 4 hatchlings. We also have two other nests being built, don't know the occupants, and a box with barn swallows (also blue)
Jim is hard at work on the grounds and Susan has done a lot of planting.
Hope all are planning for our cookout on June 24th. Are any bocce players comming?
June 24th
Submitted by Norb on Wed, 05/17/2006 - 11:57am.Cookout at our place as most of you know. Mary Helen and Mark will be staying with us,(they're going to the Opera Ball with us and Patty and Tom the night before). We just bought a bocce set so we hope Justin will bring his and we can have a tournament! The horse training oval should be perfect for that.
Currently we have at least one beaver in the pond. The golf course folks are a little upset since perhaps it slows down their drainage.
Titan and Lucy, our barn cats, feed outside the kitchen window twice a day.
We've got in some more stones and are building a stone circle. (se

April 24th
Submitted by Norb on Mon, 04/24/2006 - 2:14pm.Nice blogs from everybody. We've been back from Hawaii 2 weeks now. Spring is in the air. Jim and I've worked on the yard. Susan's busy with decorating. The pool is open. Starting temp was 50. We're not heating the entire pool yet, but we just fire up the attached hot tub when we want to and it's ready quickly.
For you birders we have a wood duck apparently nesting in a natural hole in one of our black locusts, about 50 feet off the ground, and only 10 feet behind our pool.
We've got 7 bluebird houses up. They've come and gone several times during and since winter but haven't settled in.
snowshoeing, skiing, and Indians
Submitted by Norb on Tue, 03/07/2006 - 9:41am.Last weekend was beautiful in the Adirondacks. On Friday we snowshoed from Route 3, west of Saranac, to Stoney Creek Pond. Talked to some ice fishermen. One was from Mineville and knew some of susan's relatives. The next day under a beautiful clear blue sky we skiied from the same parking pullout down the road to Upper Saranac Lake and out to Chapel Island. It's a nice little log style church where services are held in the summer.
This mile stretch of land, from SCP to USL was a very importrant Indian settlement and intersection. One of the Algonquin or Iroquois tribes lived there every summer. Think of the easy communication they had by waterways. They could go south by way of the racket r. through long lake and connecting through the fulton chain of lakes right down to the Mohawk valley then west on the mohawk towards the finger lakes and Niagara. They could go west and north along the racket through Tupper lake and beyond to the St Lawrence in the Alexandria Bay area. They could go east through the saranacs to lake champlain and then north to the St. Lawrence or south through champlain to the Hudson with access all the way to Manhatten. Travelling by water was the only easy mode of communication. Many indian artifacts have been found in this area near Corey's but we haven't found any despite looking.
