11 October - Windang Beach, New South Wales

We have left the tablelands of the Canberra region.  Saw the national museum and the amazing botanical gardens.  Found the New Holland Honeyeater too.  Our camping has gone well even if we woke up to frost on two mornings.  Not having a “dingy” I have had to drive us about in the caravan.  Exciting.

Yesterday we took the caravan rattling down various narrow roads to the coast and finally arrived at Windang Beach south of the city of Woolangong or “the gong” so say Australians.  Our site has a view of the bay.  A small forest between us and the ocean beach provides good protection from the wind.  We walked the 100 meters across early to watch the waves and surfers and then followed the shore along the inlet back around to the bay and the campground.  There the water was much more docile.

With rain forecast we have stayed close visiting Kiama famous for a blow hole.  The waves were more than adequate this morning to create large geysers.  We enjoyed watching and then made lunch in our motorhome before coming to library to access internet and send postings.   So far no rain.  We could have gone farther, but have enjoyed our day on the coast.
