I mentioned that story to my Dad over the weekend. He fondly remembers, as a little boy, walking with his Dad from their home on Stanley Street to the Hesler’s in Bellevue for the card games. He’d be so sleepy at the end of the night that his Dad would carry him home! Nice memories to share! Regards, Mark
For what it’s worth, here’s a little piece of family trivia you might not know -- your grandfather was godfather to my mother, Mary Hesler Ryan. She, of course, called him Uncle Frank and always spoke of him fondly. She said he was a very nice man. She also said that he and my grandfather, Fred Hesler, and Uncle John Hesler often would get together to play cards on Friday nights. Sometimes, I guess, the game would get a little “heated” but that it always turned out well in the end. Thank goodness!
