News From South Florida

A fresh breeze howls through the condominium and rattles the silver palm outside the window.Lines of puffy clouds mottle the hazy winter sky.Today is warm, but another cool front is expected on Tuesday, bringing back clear skies and chilly mornings.

Anne and I prepared a Sunday breakfast of eggs and bacon.  Mom & Dad left for church at eight-thirty.  We drove to nearby Lakes Park and walked a few miles in search of birds and other wildlife.  At first the park was quiet.  Dead fish from last week’s freeze were disagreeable along the windward shore, but otherwise the park was, as usual, pleasing.  The Laurel Oaks are coming into bloom, their falling leaves and emerging catkins giving the first sign of spring.

This afternoon, we are relaxing and planning our week. We will likely go to the pool in a bit. So goes our relaxed time here in South Florida.  Anne and I go birding every few days, mostly making short ventures and returning in the afternoon.  Otherwise we jog at dawn and share breakfast with Mom and Dad.  They go to church and we work on our projects.  In the afternoon we go out shopping or continue our activities.  There are also social activities with the senior Davidsons or friends of Mom and Dad. Mom and Anne usually prepare supper.  We may play a game or watch a movie in the evening. I (Chuck) bake cereal, bread, and cookies as needed in between. Then the day is done.

Dad is not enjoying visits to the dentist to replace a lost crown, but otherwise, we have been well. No outrageous excitement, but still the breeze sounds through the palms and we enjoy the glorious atmosphere here.
