August 23, 2008 - Twin Mountain, NH

We have just completed a three day hike on the A.T. in western Maine and have now finished the trail across both Maine and New Hampshire. This gives satisfaction because frankly these are tough mountains and we wanted to finish the Trail here while we were still able.
On this hike the weather was good and we enjoyed seeing numerous boreal chickadees and spruce grouse. We did not see moose on the trail but saw lots of sign. At noon today we stood on Old Blue Mountain and saw range after range to the west and south. In the distance we could see a thin trail of black smoke from the highest mountain on the horizon. This was Mount Washington and the smoke was from the famous cog railroad train that chugs up that monolith.
We are heading south tomorrow to Bennington, VT where we will leave the motorhome and then run to Cape Cod for some rest and relaxation before returning to Bennington for more of the trail next month.
