woodstrehl's blog

January 31, 2015 - Lee County FL

Sorry for no recent blogs.  Anne and I have been busy of late.  I write now to provide an update.  We are currently at the condominium near Fort Myers with Mom and Dad Woods.  Their ability to travel here in early January was uncertain, but in the end the mission became a go.  As in the past, their time here has been somewhat restorative.  Yesterday both swam in the pool.  They enjoy the sunshine each day.  Usually that is outside, but if not, then on the back porch in the afternoon.

Tales of Gettysburg - November 2014

November 11, 2014

Today is Veteran's Day, one of those days when Adams County residents may gain free admission to the Gettysburg National Military Park museum and the fabulous Cyclorama painting.  We took advantage of this opportunity to visit for the second time.  We skipped our jog, arrived early, enjoyed the show, and drove on to the East Cavalry Fields, a section of the park that is lightly visited.

Thoughts on the Fall of the Wall - November 10, 2014

In my note to the kids this morning I made the comments that follow and thought they might be of interest to other readers of this blog.  Here they are.

The Medicare Adventure

My 65th birthday is coming up in February.  That was once considered “the full retirement age” and although that changed, the federal elderly health insurance program called Medicare continues to begin at age 65.

Peru Report – October 7, 2014

September 9, 2014 - <<<Miraflores, Peru

Greetings all.  We arrived successfully in Peru late evening on Sunday and were met by agents of our tour company.  We set alarm for five a.m. and were met by guide in the lobby at seven.  There too we met several others from our group.  We loaded into a small bus and rattled, bumped, and beeped our way out of Lima and down the coast.

Summer into Winter 2014

August 18, 2014 - Alamo Square

Alex's corner apartment is on the sixth floor southwest.  The apartment house is at the corner of Alamo Square on the top of a small hill in this great city.  The view is fabulous even on this misty day.  A Western Gull sweeps over the park in front of the Bernal Heights Hill to the south.  I could get used to living here, but the cost of everything is simply too high.

AUGUST 1, 2014 - NOTES ON PROBATE

I give an odd report to all.  I’m currently living the bachelor life until I join Anne in San Francisco.  With our running back and forth from California this year we will (one or both) occupy the house some seven months (a new record).  The weather has been good.  July experienced near record coolness.  I guess that prepares me for the chill of San Francisco.

June 15, 2014 - Piney Mountain

Just a quick report this morning before church.  Anne came home this week and we played at being love birds after being almost a month apart.  Alex makes slow improvement and is tying his shoelaces, undergoing therapy, and fearful of relapses into intense hand pain.  The hand therapist encourages ongoing exercise and to focus on other things when he fears any reaction after use.  He must restore function despite mild setbacks.
