If this deal goes through, Pataki should stop it from happening in NY. We have major city which is a known terrorist target.

I don't care, they can do whatever they want. This deal won't affect me at all.

Ouch

You guys are way ahead of me I am going to have to study. Basically just confused by it all so far. I'll try to read Tom's article later and see if that makes a difference.

NYT article's perspective

This seemed simple at first--no Middle East companies should be involved. But this article gives a little perspective, and from a publication which is no friend of the current Administration. We don't know how perfunctory the review was, but if we are trying to foster good relationships with "friends" in the Middle East, maybe we shouldn't appear to reject business ventures simply because they are Arabic. However, this isn't the most pressing issue of all time, as Norb says.

"Port security"

the terrorists came through

the terrorists came through germany and we deal with them. I don't really have a dog in this fight. Congress can hash it out politically whatever they want and George will then do his thing.

info

I got some of the info in this poll from this CNN article.

Post comments if you have any!

caution

i read the article and watched the CNN video report on it and it seems like both sides have an argument, but i think it is quite obvious that there we should be cautious in letting the UAE control the ports given its apparent connection with the 9/11 attacks.

i think we need to examine the exact role UAE would play in "controlling" the ports to make a better decision.

are the UAE and the british firm our only options? aren't there more firms and competition?
avoiding the UAE would be justified under being cautious and should not necessarily be seen as "bigotry" considering recent history.

Caution

I think we should be cautious of the Dubai owned firm of the EAU. Democracy now web site article.
