New Hampshire phone jamming

In case you haven't seen it, there is an interesting story being circulated on the blog circuit about Republican efforts to jam Democratic phone lines in connection with the 2002 senate election.

Letter from Birmingham Jail

The March issue of The Atlantic has a series of excerpts from writings by black leaders over the past 150 years. I had the opportunity to read it this last weekend. I remain struck by the power of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Letter from Birmingham Jail. It is always worth remembering and reflecting on how poorly we, as a society, treat other human beings and how much we room we have to improve our relationships in the future.

Our prayers will include Nashville this weekend

For those of you who may not have seen this in the news (I didn't until this morning), Nashville was hit with a serious tornado on Friday. Please include the people affected in your thoughts and prayers this weekend.

Update: We spoke with Mom and Dad Davidson and Steve Davidson this evening. They assured us that everyone in our family is doing fine and was not directly affected. The storm hit near the shopping center a few miles from Mom and Dad's home and then skipped over them and touched down again a few miles down the road.

Rumsfeld/Will on Iraq

Here are the conflicting op-ed pieces in today's Washington Post by Donald Rumsfled and by George Will.

A Brief History of St. Patrick's Day

The story of St. Patrick's Day begins around 385 AD with a man named Maewyn. At age 16, the Pagan Maewyn was sold into slavery, which brought him closer to God. He finally managed to escape slavery six years later and headed to a monastery in Gaul to study, where he adopted the Christian name "Patrick." Upon ending his studies, he moved to Ireland, where he felt his calling in life was to convert Pagans to Christianity. For the next 30 years, he traveled throughout the country, setting up monasteries and converting the natives. After his death in 461 (on March 17th, when else did you expect?), he was declared a saint.

Adding songs

I applaud Jim for taking the time to add songs and audio files to the site. But, I do not believe that these audio files should be made available to the public (especially for download). Accordingly, I have removed them from listing on the front page and redesignated them for family only (as opposed to the public). If you are logged in, you can still find them under "audio files." As a practical matter, this means that anyone surfiing the web will not see the songs and will not be able to download them.

I am using the image assist feature that has now been added to the lower left corner of your blog "body (where you insert text like this) to insert 2 photos taken of sand scupltures discovered by Karen, Anna and Emily. By the time we saw them, it was growing dark.

Hopefully you can still get a feeling for how impressive they were.
